Nail Tips From An Esthetician

As a licensed esthetician, and having to redo my manicure course twice- I've learned a few tips and tricks to care for your nails, so today I'm going to be sharing those with you

Buffing the nails: we've all seen the little 4 sided buffers, you can get them at the dollar store, pharmacy, and are usually included in any nail art kit, but do you actually know why you use one? a buffer helps to eliminate ridges and discolourations in the nail. A buffer also helps your nails to grow. When you buff your nails it stimulates heat and stimulates the nail matrix, in turn it actually causes your nails to grow longer, faster. Don't do it too often though! once or twice a week is best, any more than that and you'll over-refine and weaken the nail instead.

file at an angle: it's probably happened to you before, you've caught your nail on something and it peels off the top bit of your nail. your nails actually do have layers. when you file your nails straight on it exposes these layers, making the nail weaker, and allowing air and water to get between the nails and cause them to break and split. but if hold your file under your nail and angle it back slightly, it'll help to minimize damage to the nails.

Cut your nails slowly: instead of just grabbing your nail clipper and going to town, slow down and take smaller pieces at a time, cut the nail in two or three sections instead of one big cut, it saves the integrity of the nail, and makes it less likely to crack.
